Tom Freimuth, Commissioner
Governor Dave Heineman announced Commissioner Freimuth's appointment to
represent Nebraska's Second Congressional District on the Tax Equalization &
Review Commission on June 24, 2011. The appointment became effective on
July 25, 2011 and his term will run through January 1, 2018
Freimuth is an Omaha resident raised in the Nebraska communities of
Crawford, Sutton and Milford. Prior
to his appointment, he practiced law at Freimuth Law Office in Omaha since 2002,
focusing on civil litigation and residential real estate management.
Upon graduation from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1990,
Freimuth practiced law for several years in Omaha, with an emphasis in the areas
of tax, business, corporate, estate planning and probate.
He also worked in these areas for several years in the financial services
industry and as a general counsel with a business development company.
Prior to attending law school, Freimuth worked as a Nebraska
Congressional Legislative Assistant for three years in Washington, D.C.
Freimuth currently serves on the Board of Directors of Nelnet Education
Loan Funding, Inc., a subsidiary of Nelnet, Inc., which is engaged in business
in the education industry. From
2006 through the effective date of his appointment to the Tax Equalization &
Review Commission, he represented the legal profession on the Nebraska State
Records Board.
Freimuth is an active volunteer, with a focus on assisting Omaha’s large
Sudanese adult population in terms of assimilation.
He is also active as a mentor to Sudanese youths.
In addition to his law degree, Freimuth is a 1980 graduate of Milford,
Nebraska High School, and he received a B.A. degree from Creighton University in
1984.
